The courthouse square in Jefferson will be a busy place for people of all ages next Tuesday, Aug. 22, with the farmers market and supper, a band concert, and a community pep rally for the fall sports season.
The farmers market will be on the east side of the courthouse from 4 to 6 pm. The season is in full swing, with a wide variety of locally grown produce, baked good, jams and jellies, custom wood pieces and more.
The Lamb Producers are serving the market supper and will offer lamb chops, lamb burgers, leg of lamb sandwiches and kabobs.
The Town and Country Band will play a concert at 6 pm on the north lawn. The band has been working on new music and is excited to share it with an audience. Director will be Wes Anderson, as regular director Victoria Chargo is on hiatus until mid-September.
Those planning to listen to the band should bring lawn chairs. An instrument case will be open for donations to the band. Jefferson Matters: Main Street is hosting the concert.
Also on the north and west sides of the courthouse, Ram athletes will organize games for youngsters from 6:15 to 6:45. Football and volleyball players, cross country runners and the cheerleaders will have free activities with participation gifts for children. The Ram marching band and color guard will put Ram tattoos on children.
A community pep rally will start at 6:45 on the south side of the courthouse. Activities director Mitch Moore will serve as emcee and will talk about the new Ram culture. Fall athletes and band members will be recognized, and coaches and teachers will talk briefly about upcoming events.
The pep rally will conclude at 7:35 with information from the Greene County Activities Booster Club, organizers of the pep rally.
